Tennessee tried desperately to pull out of his father’s arms, but he was simply too little to fight against the frightened hug he’d been sucked into. His eyes swayed over to the window to see his mother outside, but he couldn’t see her from where he stood. She was on the dock, crouching and swishing her tail in anger last he saw her, “Pa?” Tennessee asked, scared.
Fits’ hand flew to his son’s mouth, “Shh.”
